Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Abdulla Muththalib says he and his staff are heartbroken about the fire that completely burned down the building that housed the Ministry along with two other Ministries.

It was reported that the fire initially in the Green Building in Maafannu ward started at the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development and then spread to the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Environment which had offices in the same building.

The City Council also operated its Vital Registration Unit at the building and the department was also burned beyond use.

Sharing a picture of the building ablaze, the Minister said the Tinu Building — originally constructed as the temporary office building to relocate the construction ministry in 2008 — became the permanent workspace and a second home for the Ministry's staff.

He continued that despite its modest and less-than-ideal conditions, it was a special place for everyone who worked there.

Today we lost the place with everything in it. We are heartbroken. We are very grateful for your thoughts and prayers.

It took hours before MNDF firefighters were able to control the fire that damaged the building beyond use. The offices operating inside the building have now suspended their services as they look for an alternative location.

MNDF have not yet revealed the cause of the fire.
