MP for Dhiggaru Constituency and Vice Speaker of the Parliament, Ahmed Nazim, says authorities have found the individuals who used MVR 14.6 million scammed from the MMPRC Scandal, along with evidence of their crimes.
His comments came after the MP for Hanimaadhoo Constituency, Abdul Ghafoor Moos, called on authorities to arrest government officials involved in thefts.
Speaking at the parliamentary session today, Vice Speaker Nazim said that this administration is taking measures to prevent corruption within the ranks of the government.
Noting that the government has permitted the audit of uniformed services such as the army, police, and corrections, Nazim also revealed details of the MMPRC case.
Nazim said the people who used MVR 14.6 million of the MMPRC funds have been identified without any doubt.
Nazim also said that the government has taken action against corruption and theft and sacked some senior officials of some companies. As a result, he said, the unwanted noise from the companies has stopped
The MMPRC Scandal is one of the most massive corruption and fraud cases ever recorded in the country, involving officials from different levels of the state during the tenure of former President Abdullah Yameen.
Yameen's former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb, and former Managing Director of MMPRC, Abdullah Ziyath were charged and convicted in the case.
While both were sentenced to years in jail, the former government of MDP pardoned Adeeb from serving the jail sentence.
