Police say the accident involving a minor happened in Addu City last night because the minor who was driving one of the motorcycles that crashed was fleeing the police in fear.
The accident in Addu City Hithadhoo was reported last night around 09:17 pm after two motorcycles crashed.
Police said a 15-year-old boy was driving one of the motorcycles that crashed and that the other driver was a woman. Police also said that the 15-year-old had a passenger who was 16 years old. All three were injured in the collision and treated at the Addu Equatorial Hospital.
Many are aiming criticisms at the police, claiming that the boys crashed into the other vehicle after they were hit by the Police vehicle. Rumors are also circulating that the boys were tortured in the police vehicle after they were arrested.
In response to the allegations, Police said preliminary findings did not show that any police vehicle was involved in the collision. Police further said that the accident happened when the minor saw a police vehicle and started to flee before crashing into the other cycle.
Police added that they were further investigating the incident.
