Police say they have forwarded the case of the teacher who was arrested for allegedly grooming a student to the Prosecutor General's office to file charges.

They said they completed the investigation of the case and forwarded the case for prosecution on the 25th of last month.

Police said the case was reported to the Police on the 17th of October. Police said the male teacher from a school in one of the central Atolls has been accused of speaking inappropriately to students and grooming them.

They also said that the 29-year-old teacher was arrested on October 27 under a court order. The suspect is a local and was initially remanded in custody for 20 days.

The suspect was then given an additional 30 days in remand custody.

Police did not reveal any more information about the case as per their stand practice.

For the past few years, Police have been prioritizing the crimes committed against minors and children with sexual crimes given special importance.

Police have also been working to protect the identity of victims of such heinous crimes and have withheld information about the victim’s island or atoll or where the crimes happened in multiple cases.
