Court authorities have remanded the 12 suspects who were arrested after they held a person hostage and tortured the victim at an apartment in Hiya flats of Hulhumale' Phase 2.

Court documents said that out of the 12 suspects, 5 were remanded in police custody for 5 days, and the rest were remanded in police custody for 7 days.

In a gripping turn of events, Police broke down the door of the apartment after they received an intelligence tip that a gang was holding a victim hostage at an apartment in the Hiya flats.

Police entered the 11-number flat on the 20th floor of the H9 tower in the nick of time to rescue the victim. They said the assailants had already shaved the victim's head and were about to cut off one of the victim's fingers when police broke in.

Police proceeded to arrest all 12 suspects inside the apartment and said that they believed all 12 were complicit in the crime. They also said that the extent to which all are involved would be determined as the investigation progresses.

They added that Police officers seized narcotics from the scene of the crime and that authorities had raided the apartment for narcotics in previous occasions.
