National carrier Maldivians has resumed flights to Kooddoo Airport following repairs to its runway.
Maldivian said that it resumed operations to Kooddoo today and that two daily flights have been scheduled to the airport.
Maldivian suspended flights to Kooddoo after the runway and apron of the airport were severely damaged, forcing two flights to be grounded.
Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen had said before that civil Aviation audits have revealed that the airport's runway has not been maintained.
However, the minister said the action had been delayed due to the difficulties faced by the public and tourists.
The runway was repaired by Pristine Island Investment, which operates the airport.
The airport in Gaafu Alifu was initially opened in 2012. However the airport was later closed down for further expansions and re-opened in 2017.
