The Parliament's National Security Services Committee has held the committee's hearing on the employees working at the official residence of the Speaker of the Parliament behind closed doors.
The Chairperson of the Committee MP for Eydhafushi Constituency Ahmed Saleem said today that many have requested the parliamentary secretariat to find the number of employees working at Muraidhoo Ge and their salaries.
He further said that the Secretariat had requested the Committee decide to disclose the information. MP Saleem also said that the Parliament had been unable to respond to the letter by the Secretariat as the house had been in recess.
He added that when put to vote on whether or not to hold today's hearing behind closed doors, the members of the Committee unanimously agreed to close off the hearing.
Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdullah shifted to the official residence of the Speaker back in July. Since then he has appointed veteran journalist Adam Haleem as the Chief of Staff and legendary footballer Ali Ashfaq as the Director General of the residence.
Muriadhoo Ge was reserved for the Speaker of Parliament with the amendment to the law to strengthen the security of state officials in connection with the May 6, 2021 bombing of former President Mohamed Nasheed.
The Chief Justice has since been given an official residence.
