Maldives Meteorological Services the Met Office says the adverse weather affected major part of the country is expected to continue till Monday.
It said in a statement that with the active monsoon, two circulations have formed in the far north and south of the Maldives. It said that over the past four days, strong average winds and gust winds were experienced over the Northern and Central Atolls.
The Met Office said that the strongest gust winds recorded were 55 miles per hour on 09th October at 11:00 in the night at Baa Atoll Dharavandhoo and 58 miles per hour (05:40 am) and 61 miles per hour (10:46 am) at Hulhule' this morning.
It said the heaviest rainfall of 120mm was recorded in Fuvamulah City on 8th October.
The Met Office said adverse weather is expected to continue over the Maldives area till Monday. It said strong average winds of 15-25 miles per hour with fairly widespread rain and occasional squally thundershowers are expected in northern and central areas.
It forecasted that average winds of 10-20 miles per hour with isolated squally thundershowers are expected in the Southern area.
Gust winds up to 45-55 miles per hour are expected in all areas. It also said that wave surges are also possible during high tide times in surge-prone areas.
