A foreigner who allegedly took more than MVR 400,000 from under the seat of a motorcycle has been remanded in custody for 15 days.
In the court documents issued regarding the incident that transpired yesterday, the Criminal Court said that 45-year-old Jahangiri Aalam had been accused of stealing MVR 442,750 from under the seat of a motorcycle.
The documents said that even though the suspect has denied the allegations, there is sufficient evidence against the Bangladeshi nation including CCTV footage and the statement from the owner of the money he stole.
The Court remanded him for 15 days. Police have not revealed any information about the incident.
Theft and robbery are common in the city area. Police are arresting such criminals and making their names public. Both men and women are involved in such crimes.
