Police say they have set up checkpoints in Male' and Hulhumale' to inspect drivers and vehicles and ensure road safety in the crowded capital city.

This comes after several road accidents in Male' and Hulhumale', two of which resulted in fatalities.

Police said vehicle checkpoints will be set up in various parts of Male' and Hulhumale' to inspect driving licenses and other documents.

They said officers will also advise and raise awareness to help drivers pay attention to road safety.

Police have also advised the public to ensure that all safety measures are taken before using the vehicle.

The special operation from the Police came after two local youths succumbed to their injuries sustained in two different accidents in 2 days.

A 21-year-old man died after a collision in Male' while a 23-year-old prison officer died after a crash near the Central Park of Hulhumale'. Several other accidents in the last two weeks have also resulted in several serious injuries to motorists.
