Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has resigned from his post amid parliamentary procedure to relieve him of his responsibilities.

The PG resigned as a parliamentary session continued to dismiss him after the Judiciary Committee approved a motion that also supported his dismissal.

The Prosecutor General's Office said that following Shameem's resignation, Deputy Prosecutor General Mahmood Saleem would be the acting Prosecutor General.

Earlier today, Shameem had met with the media after the Judicial Committee meeting held to dismiss him.

Shameem said that the accusations were nothing new and that he was being dismissed not because the state had lost faith in his ability to perform his duties.

Prosecutor General Shameem said when this administration came into power, he met with the leaders of major state agencies and had talks on policy changes and other relevant issues.
