Local authorities have arrested the foreigner who allegedly served food made from cat meat.
His arrest came after the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare filed a report with the Police regarding allegations that the 32-year-old Bangladeshi national named Arafat Hossain had been cooking cat meat and serving food made of the meat at his workplace.
Police initially said that they had launched the investigation and reported earlier today that the man had now been taken into custody.
The arrest was made by Immigration officials assisted by the Police as Immigration had issued a notice to appear for the Bangladeshi national.
Immigration said that he was arrested because of a tip-off given to the authorities about his whereabouts and that he is now is immigration custody.
The country is currently in uproar over the allegations that the suspect served cat meat. Local media outlets have published pictures of his home and kitchen where he prepared food. The pictures showed a disturbing scene as the cramped space was dirty and not fit to be used to make food.
The recent raids on illegal businesses run by migrants have revealed many such places where commonly sold food items are being prepared in extremely dirty places.
