National carrier Maldivian has canceled its flights to the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka amid political unrest.

In a post on X, Maldivian said that due to the emerging situation in Bangladesh, it is not able to operate and has canceled its flights to and from Dhaka on 6th August 2024.

Maldivian further said that it is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to providing support to its passengers during this time.

The carrier also said that the safety of its passengers and crew remains its most important priority.

After weeks of anti-government protests in Bangladesh which killed hundreds, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country yesterday.

Hasina, 76, quit on Monday after last month’s student-led protests against a quota system for government jobs turned into a popular call for her sacking – the worst political crisis to hit during her 15-year rule.
