Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed has denied accusations made by the Chairperson of MDP Fayyaz Ismail who said that the government was distributing a monthly allowance of MVR 50,000 to PNC MPs from the Presidential residence Muliaage.

Fayyaz made the allegation while speaking on a program broadcasted by Raaje TV. He said that the government was giving out this allowance to keep the PNC MPs in line.

In a party system, he said it was not a problem to defend the government through parliament and promote what the government wants in an organized manner, but he said members should be free to speak as they wish.

The former Economic Minister accused that the parliament was being operated directly by the President.

In a post on X, Heena Waleed said that these accusations were blatantly false. However, she did not give any more details about her statement.

There are 75 PNC MPs in the Parliament and they should be all earning around MVR 86,000 per month including salary and committee allowances.
