Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says he can see the main opposition party MDP securing the parliamentary majority in the election held today.

He made the remarks in comments to the media after casting his ballot for today's parliamentary election.

The former President said that as he witnessed the voting process unfold across the country, he is hoping that the MDP can secure a clear majority in the parliament after the election.

He said that he saw signs of such a triumph during the campaigning and today during the voting process.

The former President also called on all to exercise their electoral right and vote in today's parliamentary election. MDP is competing for 89 of the 93 constituencies in today's election.

In its latest election update, the Elections Commission confirmed that 93,224 people have voted up until noon and that this accounts for 32.75 percent of the total eligible voters.

As per the Commission's update, 191,439 voters are yet to cast their ballots as 284,663 individuals are eligible to vote in this election.
