Elections Commission has announced that voting time for the upcoming parliamentary elections has been extended till 5:30 in the evening.
The Commission has initially decided to hold the voting from 08:00 in the morning till 4:00 in the evening.
It decided to extend the voting period upon the recommendation from the National Advisory Committee yesterday. The main reason for the extension is to account for the bad weather that might prevent voters from casting their ballots in the election.
The Commission stated that it would not extend the voting time any further.
The Parliamentary Election will be held on the 21st of this month, next Sunday. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared next Sunday as well as Monday as public holidays.
The Elections Commission has said that 284,663 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in Sunday's election.
This includes 145,302 men and 139,361 women. The Election would see parliamentary members elected to 93 seats.
