A Maldivian who traveled to Saudi Arabia for an Umrah pilgrimage has died while in the Holy City of Mecca.

The deceased has been identified as Ibrahim Rasheed of Osaca, Haa Alifu Dhihdhoo.

He went to Umrah with Zam Zam Haj and Umrah group. The group said today that when he died, Rasheed had been seeking treatment for lung cancer.

The group also said that Rasheed had developed an infection in his lungs and passed away while under treatment for the illness at Mecca's Noor Hospital.

Rasheed died today at the age of 58.

Maldivians have passed away while on Umrah pilgrimage before and also while on the annual Hajj Pilgrimage.
