Today, the Prosecutor General's Office released a guideline on how to investigate cases involving child exploitation.

The use of children in crime has increased, and the guidance is part of the responsibilities and powers of the Prosecutor-General to oversee inspections and investigations into alleged criminal conduct and ensure that they are conducted per the law.

Under the Child Rights Protection Act, the offense of child exploitation is an offense in itself to recruit or otherwise use children for various crimes.

The PGO said that these types of crimes are challenging to investigate and that, with the guidance released today, it will be ensured that all agencies involved in the criminal justice system act consistently.

It said that the directive would facilitate more vigorous investigation and action against children and those who groom and recruit children in all parts of the country.

It also said that this would make police investigation and prosecution procedures more straightforward to all agencies working in this field.
