A fire at a boatyard in Kaafu Atoll Kaashidhoo has burnt down two vessels docked at the yard.

The incident occurred at midnight last night, and the reason the fire broke out remains unclear.

However, the Kaashidhoo Council has accused the fire of being caused by an arson attack on the boatyard. These accusations remained unverified.

Sources said the fire broke out near several vessels that had been unused for a long time. It was reported that the fire first ignited in one of the vessels, and as the vessels were kept close, the fire spread and engulfed the other boat, which was not controlled.

MNDF fire Fighters eventually extinguished the fire with help from the police and residents of Kaashidhoo. No agency has yet spoken about the incident at the Kaashidoo boatyard.
