Transport Ministry says it has removed more than 100 unused vehicles as it teamed with other agencies to solve the traffic congestion problem plaguing the capital city.

The Ministry is teaming up with the Police, Male' City Council, HDC, Customs, MTCC, Housing Ministry, and the Economic Ministry.

It kicked off the program on the 17th of this month and said that it had removed vehicles left unused on the streets of Male' and Hulhumale'. The Ministry detailed that it had removed 52 unused vehicles from Male' and Hulhumale' last week alone.

It further said that it had removed a total of 108 vehicles since it began the urban traffic decongestion program earlier this month.

The Transport Ministry said that the purpose of the program was to decongest the streets of Male' and ensure the safety of those who use the roads.

The Ministry further said that these efforts would make the streets safer for all and reduce the number of fatal accidents in the highly crowded capital city.

It said that authorities have come up with short-term and long-term plans for traffic decongestion and that they would schedule how these efforts would be carried out.

The Ministry also stated that the efforts would be carried out in two phases and that today's launch was part of the first phase.
