Local fishermen have staged a protest in Kuddoo over unpaid due for fish sold to the state-owned MIFCO.

Videos are circulating online showing several fishermen staging protests on the island.

Speaking on the matter MP for Villigilli Constituency Saud Hussain said that the government's inability to pay the fishermen their dues have forced the fishermen and their families to face several challenges.

The MP said that these families have been unable to pay for necessities like water and electricity and are also struggling to pay back their loans.

Saud called on the government to issue all the undue payments owed to the fishermen.

The circulating videos show several fishermen voicing their concerns over the unpaid dues. They are demanding that the government give them the owed amounts as soon as possible.

Fishermen have staged protests over overdue payments before and President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assured that the government would arrange for the payments even if by granting a loan to MIFCO.
