President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says strengthening the country's healthcare system is a high priority for this administration and that it plans to improve services across the country.

He said this in his answer to a question by Adam Abdullah of Laamu Maabaidhoo who touched on how difficult it was to find doctor's appointments for specialists in the Maldives. Since the beginning of this month, the President has been answering video questions from regular citizens daily.

The President said that the government is working to employ more specialist doctors at the state-run IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital. He also said that the government would bring in doctors from abroad for fields that are lacking specialists in the Maldives.

President Muizzu noted that as the number of specialists increases in the country, the wait for appointments would be shortened too.

He said that efforts are now underway to provide an exact date for the appointment when the patients make the appointment for the doctor's visit and that the system would be designed based on such parameters. The President further said that the current tweak to the system would the doctors to spend more time at the hospital providing services to the patients.

He added that the government is working to enhance the services like this in the hospitals in the Greater Male' area as well as across the country.
