MP for Galolhu North Constituency Eva Abdullah has called on the government to award the flats as soon as possible to the applicants who meet the criteria under the 'Gedhoruveriya' housing scheme initiated by the former government.
Eva said this in an emergency motion submitted to the parliament today.
The MP said in the motion that the issue of housing remains long resolved and the moment the previous government released the list of recipients of the 4,000 flats brought the hope of a better life for many families.
However, Eva said because the flat issuing has been delayed due to one reason or another, these families have had to endure further financial burdens and living conditions.
The flat list in question has been under scrutiny since the moment it was released and the Anti-Corruption Commission conducted a months-long investigation into how the flats were awarded.
ACC released its findings earlier this week and said that 59.6 percent of the flats were given to applicants who did not meet the criteria. MP Eva touched on the ACC findings and said that the flats should be issued to the recipients whose application forms were cleared by the ACC.
