Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam says the parliament has today set an irresponsible precedent in not giving its full backing to the cabinet appointed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Today the parliament voted to approve 19 out of the 22 cabinet members appointed by the President. Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed, and Attorney General Ahmed Usham failed to garner support to receive the backing of the parliament.
Shiyam, who received 69 votes from the parliament, said on X that failing to give full backing to the cabinet appointed by President Muizzu was an irresponsible precedent set in a civilized society like the Maldives.
The former MP for Naifaru Constituency went on to say that the society won't accept not approving cabinet Ministers under oath in front of God without a valid reason.
The government is expected to reinstate the Ministers and Attorney General Usham to their posts as indicated by the President's top Advisor Abdul Raheem Abdullah yesterday.
He said that the President has discretion to reinstate any cabinet member who is rejected by the Parliament to the same post.
