President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared the day the President makes his Presidential Address to the Parliament a non-holiday every year.
He made the declaration per Article 84 of the Republic of Maldives Constitution.
The President's Office issued a decree today declaring the day of the Presidential Address to be a non-holiday. This decree further indicated that the President's Office had repealed the previous decree No. 4/2019.
This means, starting this year the parliament opening day of every year won't be a public holiday.
President Muizzu is expected to give his inaugural Presidential Address on the 5th of February which is the day the Parliament would begin its sessions for this year.
He is expected to outline the new government's vision before a parliament that has yet to give approval to his cabinet though the government is halfway to its first 100 days in power.
