Anti Corruption Commission ACC says it is nearing the end of its investigation into how 4,000 housing flats were awarded under the previous government's 'Gedhoruveriya Scheme'.
Speaking to the Press, a media official from ACC said that a major part of its investigation has now been completed. The official further said that ACC would be able to wrap up its investigation soon and reveal its findings.
The Housing Ministry has granted access to its Gedhoruveriya Portal to ACC for its investigation. The Commission has also said that it was questioning relevant parties and collecting information related to the matter.
ACC has also said that as the investigation has the vested interest of a lot of people, the Commission is using all the technical and human resources at its disposal for the investigation.
The Commission ordered the Housing Ministry to cease issuing flats in November 2023. When the Commission was summoned to the Parliament's Committee on Independent Entities, it revealed that authorities have unfairly given points to some applicants of the scheme to award them housing flats.
