Maldives Meteorological Service, Met Office says visibility is reduced to 5km in the central and northern parts of the country due to haze.

It said that the prevailing easterly winds over the past few days have drastically reduced visibility over the northern and central atolls of the Maldives.

The Met Office said that while more than 10 km is reported on a clear day, the visibility over the past 24 hours in central Atolls has been reduced to 5 km.

It further said that visibility can vary depending on the wind (speed and direction) and rainfall.

Haze is traditionally an atmospheric phenomenon in which dust, smoke, and other dry particulates suspended in air obscure visibility and the clarity of the sky.

While the Maldives grapples with the effects of the phenomenon, Dense fog and poor visibility at Delhi airport, India's busiest airport, hit flight schedules across the country, especially Mumbai, the second-largest airport in the country.

Times of India reported that about 18 departures from Mumbai and 15 arrival flights into Mumbai, the majority of them operated by IndiGo were canceled even as hundreds of other flights were delayed.
