President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, upon his Cabinet’s recommendation, has decided to close the government for the concluding ten days of Ramadan.

The President's Office said that this decision followed discussions on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs during today’s Cabinet meeting.

It said that this measure intends to foster Islamic values, encourage engagement in religious practices, and allow citizens to prioritize religious observances during this significant period.

The closing of government offices for the concluding ten days of the holy month of Ramadan is among the presidential pledges of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

At a rally in Baarah last August, President Muizzu also announced that he would also close down schools for students in grades lower than 8th Grade for the last 10 days of Ramadan.

He said that for students of the upper grades, sessions would continue as they would have to prepare for exams.

President Muizzu had said that stopping sessions for students below grade 8 would make it easier for the parents during the last 10 days of Ramadan.
