The first internal elections of the Democrats are underway.

The Democrats said that voting in its internal election started at 10:00 a.m. and will continue till 04:00 p.m. across the country. The Democrats said that counting would begin at 04:00 p.m. at all the ballot centers.

The Party is looking to elect officials to 23 party posts including the Party's Chairman. Party founder Hassan Latheef and former MD of STO Hussain Amr are competing for the slot.

The poll would also elect top officials at the party's branches in the Atolls. Candidates of the election held competitive and fierce campaigning ahead of today's voting.

The 5,834 members of the youngest party in the Maldives are eligible to vote in its internal election today.

The Democrats, initially a breakaway faction with MDP, have been holding membership drives to boost the party's support across the country.
