Minister of Fisheries Ahmed says the government is working to separate the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) from the State Trading Organization (STO).

MIFCO was appointed as a subsidiary of STO during the government of former President Abdullah Yameen and President Dr.Mohamed Muizzu has promised to revert the decision.

Speaking more on the efforts, Minister Shiyam said that work is being done to save MIFCO by ending its existence as a subsidiary of STO.

He said that the relevant agencies including STO, MIFCO, and the ministry are working on the matter.

Minister Shiyam said that MIFCO will be a company that works very closely with the fishermen throughout the year, adding that the complaints of the fishermen will be resolved only by working closely with MIFCO and the fishermen.

He also said that President Muizzu's '14-week' action plan includes working closely with MIFCO and fishermen as never before. Shiyam said that the Ministry of Fisheries will formulate the policies in accordance with the consultation and ideas of the fishermen.

He added If the fishermen have any problems, the work will be planned to include the participation of the fishermen.
