The Parliament has concluded its debate on the Supplementary Budget submitted by the outgoing government to support this year's budget.
Before concluding today's session, the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Aslam announced that the debate on the Supplementary Budget was now over and that the budget has been forwarded to the Committee for further research.
The Parliament had voted yesterday to give the Committee two days to compile its report on the Supplementary budget before submitting it to the floor for a vote.
Out of the 43 MPs present at the parliament session yesterday, 38 MPs voted to move forward as mentioned.
Some Parliamentarians voiced concern over the amount of time given to approve the budget while some argued that the Supplementary Budget was submitted in violation of the Public Finances Act.
The Finance Ministry proposed a supplementary budget of MVR 6.5 billion which takes the total budget for 2023 to MVR 49.3 billion.
