Parliament Minority Leader MP for Henveriu Central Constituency Ali Azim says MDP is trying to hinder the work of the new government by stopping the work of the Parliament, said Ali Azim, MP for Central Henveiru.
Azim was speaking at a press conference on behalf of The Democrats' Prosecutor's Group to provide further information on what happened in Parliament today.
Azim said that the Democrats condemn what happened in Parliament today adding that there are very important works planned for Parliament. He said that this includes the swearing-in ceremony for the new President.
Azim noted that MDP is working to hinder the President-elect and the next government.
As proof of that, Azim pointed out the efforts of the party members to bring the Parliament to a halt in various ways.
Azim said the next government will not be able to do what it has to do without passing the budget and that he has repeatedly asked MDP to stop these antics.
Azim added that the MDP's claim that nothing else can be done after moving a no-confidence motion against the Speaker of Parliament has no legal basis. There are many things that have been decided in parliament when the no-confidence motion against the Speaker was first submitted.
Azim accused President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his cabinet ministers of still trying to find out how they hold onto power and get more money from state funds. He added that MDP was trying to escape and that this was why it resort to such tactics.
