Parliament Majority Party MDP has issued a three-line whip on the resolution calling for a no-confidence vote against the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
MP for Ihavandhoo Constituency Mohamed Shifau said that the MDP PG met to decide on its stand for the resolution and unanimously agreed to issue a three-line whip for the vote.
MP Shifau further said that under the standing order of the Parliament, any pending legislative work would be continued after the matter against the Speaker is resolved and that MDP MPs agreed on this too.
He said that the MDP PG advised all MDP MPs to attend next Sunday's parliamentary session in which the resolution against the Speaker is on the agenda.
MP Shifau added that MDP PG is committed to doing anything to protect the democracy of the country.
MDP PG leader MP Mohamed Aslam had said before that under the Parliament Standing Order, the Speaker of the Parliament must foresee all the legislative work without bias while upholding the Constitution and Parliament's regulations. Still, Speaker Nasheed has failed to abide by this on several occasions.
He further explained the reason for submitting the resolution by saying that the Speaker had repeatedly disregarded Parliament regulations when carrying out its work and failed to seek recommendations from the Majlis Majority Party MDP.
