Parliamentarians have urged the government of Maldives to do everything in its power to halt the Israeli-led genocide of Palestinians and not just keep issuing statements condemning the atrocities being committed.

All the MPs who debated on the resolution submitted by the MP for Villingilli Constituency Saud Hussain calling for sanctions against the Israeli regime over its unjust treatment of Palestinians voiced their support for the document.

Mainly, the MPs called for the ban of Israeli nationals in the Maldives and also prohibiting Israeli goods and imports into the country.

MP for Maafanu Central Constituency Ibrahim Rasheed and MP for Maafannu North Constituency Imthiyaz Fahmy echoed each other when they said that they were appalled by the world's greatest democracies' failure to voice their concerns over the massacre of Palestinians by the Israeli government.

Both the MPs noted that the Israeli regime was committing genocide in front of the whole world.

MP Imthiyaz correctly noted that countries that advocate for democracy and free speech allow rallies supporting the Israeli government but also hamper rallies supporting the Palestinian plight. He also highlighted the blatant bias of the Western media when covering the escalation in the region and noted that social media sites were blocking content that supported Palestinians.

Several MPs expressed concerns about just issuing statements of condemnation and the MP for Kulhudhufushi North Constituency Moosa Siraj noted that the Israeli flouting of international laws and regulations could make other countries follow their lead and take the world to more chaos and mayhem.

MP for Makunudhoo Constituency Mohamed Raee said that Maldivians have been doing all they can to show their solidarity with the people of Palestine and this has been felt by the Zionist state as it has ordered its citizens not to travel to the Maldives.
