Several Members of the Parliament have voiced concern over allegations that state-owned companies and agencies have been destroying their official documents during the transitional period between the two governments.
This comes after an employee of Fuel Supply Maldives FSM shared a video on social media that showed his colleagues destroying company documents by dumping them in a concrete machine. The employee has since been suspended from his job following the leaked video.
Speaking during the debate on the resolution calling on the government to stop influencing electoral processes, MP for Hulhudhoo Constituency Ilyas Labeeb said that government agencies and State Owned companies trying to destroy their documents can be seen and that such antics are not advised during the transitional period.
Ilyas said that the documents of agencies and companies must be stored carefully and that they should be made accessible to the next government.
He further said that seeing FSM destroy documents in the transitional period makes its action suspicious and that make it look like it is trying to hide something.
MP for Maafannu Central Constituency Ibrahim Rasheed said that MDP kept saying that they would become the responsible opposition party but destroying documents were not how responsible parties act.
