The Parliament Secretariate has sent a notice to the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed in relation to the no-confidence resolution submitted against the Speaker.
The Parliament sent that it has sent the notice for the resolution submitted with signatures from 49 MPs from MDP has now been sent to the Speaker and the Parliamentarians as per the Standing Order of the legislative house.
Under the Standing Order, the resolution should be submitted to the Parliament in the first parliamentary session held 14 days after the notice expires. The resolution should be put on the agenda of the Parliament on the 29th of this month.
The MDP PG submitted the resolution against the Speaker on the 9th of this month.
Speaking at a news conference, MDP PG leader MP Mohamed Aslam said that under the Parliament Standing Order, the Speaker of the Parliament must forsee all the legislative work without bias while upholding the Constitution and Parliament's regulations but Speaker Nasheed has failed to abide by this on several occasions.
He further explained the reason for submitting the resolution by saying that the Speaker had repeatedly disregarded Parliament regulations when carrying out its work and failed to seek recommendations from the Majlis Majority Party MDP.
