Parliament Secretariat confirms that no parliament session will be held today.
This comes after yesterday's session was abandoned due to the lack of a quorum to hold the session with many legislative works pending at the parliament. This includes passing the information sheet on the public referendum regarding the system change as well as the wording for the ballot paper to be used in the vote.
At yesterday's abandoned session, Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed said that whether or not to hold a session today depended on having talks with majority seat holder MDP.
Communications Director at the Parliament Hassan Ziyau confirmed to 'The Press' last night that no session had been scheduled for today.
The outlet tried to contact MDP PG Leader MP Mohamed Aslam repeatedly but got no answer.
Parliament Minority leader and PG leader for the Democrats MP Ali Azim said to "The Press" that discussions were held about not holding a session today and that there could be a session tomorrow. Tomorrow is a public holiday.
Speaking at the abandoned session yesterday, Nasheed said that as this is the last week of campaigning ahead of the second round of the Presidential election it is understandable that many MPs might be tied in campaigning.
He said that being involved in campaigning can also be considered as doing legislative work.
But Nasheed voiced concern over the MPs who appear to enter the premises of the Parliament building and then refuse to join the session.
