PNC Presidential Candidate Dr.Mohamed Muizzu has made an important announcement regarding his plans for Local Government Authorities (LGA).

Speaking at the "Ask Muizzu" program on Sangu TV and Channel-13, Muizzu affirmed that if he is elected, he will appoint a dedicated minister to oversee LGAs. This move aims to enhance their autonomy and strengthen their capabilities.

During the program, Dr. Muizzu responded to a question from a local about the possibility of creating a separate ministry for councils, similar to the Atoll ministry established during Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's time. He clarified that he will not be establishing an Atolls Ministry, as he believes the idea is outdated.

Drawing on his experience in decentralized roles, Dr. Muizzu highlighted the challenges faced by citizens due to inadequate communication between the government and the councils. He expressed genuine concern about the postponement, delay, and neglect of essential matters caused by this lack of rapport.

Muizzu emphasized that he intends to have a dedicated minister solely responsible for overseeing LGAs on a full-time basis. He noted that the current system, where an appointed minister oversees LGAs, leads to a broad mandate that may not adequately address the needs of all councils.

It is important to clarify that Muizzu's statement has sparked misinformation and rumors regarding the creation of an Atolls Ministry. He categorically stated that he has no plans involving an Atolls ministry and reiterated his commitment to the decentralized system.
