PNC Presidential Candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has promised that his government would build a state-of-the-art old age home for the elder citizens who are unable to live in their own homes or for those who are not given the care and love they need at their age.

Speaking on the "Ask Muizzu" program, Muizzu said that elderly citizens are an essential part of the community but the policies currently in place do not meet all their needs.

Noting that the concept of a nursing home for the elderly is not common in the Maldives, Muizzu said that he would establish a professional care system within the scope of the government's capabilities for elderly citizens who are unable to enjoy a comfortable living environment in their own homes.

Muizzu said that he decided to build such a home for the elderly because he believed that it was needed and discussions with many on the matter further backed the idea.

He added that this would only be established after rigorous research.

Right now the elderly who have no one to take care of them are being housed at the disability center in Kaafu Guraidhoo. But establishing a designated home for the elderly would benefit many.
