PNC Candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has thanked the people of Noonu Maafaru as the majority of the island backed him in the first round of the elections.
Speaking at the island after arriving in Maafaru as the first destination of his campaign trip to Noonu Atoll, Muizzu said the results show how much the people of Maafaru want development and how much they want to bring about results.
Muizzu said he was sure that he would be able to get a bigger victory in the second round of the election.
The first round of the Presidential Election was the first time the Opposition secured a majority in Maafaru with Muizzu getting 218 votes while MDP Candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih secured 193 votes.
Speaking to the people of Maafaru, Muizzu noted that the island's airport meant that there are ways to further develop tourism on the island and promised to build new roads for the island.
Mentioning that this government's healthcare policies have failed, Muizzu said that the conditions of the hospitals and health centers have all deteriorated.
He said that he had pledged to strengthen the healthcare system of each island and that he would improve the healthcare services in Maafaru too.
He went on to promise to build a resort within the Maafaru Lagoon, upgrade the island's electricity network and, also complete the football stadium on the island.
