MDP Presidential Candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says his administration is working to forgive student loans under certain conditions.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Galolhu Ward last night, President Solih said that many students who have taken loans for higher studies are struggling to pay them back and that many have asked him for a solution for their financial burden.
He said that this issue has come up during his visits to households during campaigning and that some students are now on the verge of a court battle because they have been unable to make subsequent payments.
He asked students not to be concerned about this matter and that his administration was working to make sure that these loans are forgiven when certain conditions are met.
President Solih had already lowered the adminstrative fees of the loans from 5 percent to 1 percent under his tenure and extended the repayment duration to 20 years.
