The Press has come to know that the main opposition party PPM does not want to form a coalition with the Jumhooree Party for the Presidential Election run-off.
The news outlet can also report that PPM's refusal to form a coalition with JP comes directly from jailed party leader former President Abdullah Yameen.
PPM believes it has many reasons to refuse a coalition with JP including the fact that JP has lost its 'Kingmaker' role after the first round of voting having come in 5th out of 8 and also the reality that JP does not have the political weight it used to have.
While no candidate claimed outright 50 percent of the vote in Saturday's election, PPM's sister Party PNC's Presidential Election Dr. Mohamed Muizzu came in first with more than 100,000 votes.
Muizzu's spokesperson Mohamed Tholaal said that even if there are no talks with JP, Muizzu's camp is holding formal and informal talks with other parties ahead of the second round.
Tholaal said that they are holding talks with those who share PPM and PNC's thinking, and those who support the 'Nation first policy' and that they would not hold talks with any who disregard these matters.
The Jumhooree Party is facing the daunting task of picking up the party after such a dismal performance by the leader and candidate Qasim Ibrahim in the first round of voting.
While JP claims to have 22,000 members in its ranks, only 5,460 individuals voted for Qasimin in the first round of voting.
