PNC Presidential Candidate Dr.Mohamed Muizzu casts his vote in the ongoing Presidential Election.

Muizzu, who is also the Mayor of Male' City, cast his vote in the Maafanu Dhekunu ballot box number 1. This ballot box is placed at Thaajudheen School.

Speaking to reporters outside the ballot center, Muizzu urged all voters to exercise their electoral right and vote for the candidate of their choice.

He said that today was an important day for all citizens to fulfill their constitutional duties and urged voters to cast their votes as quickly as they can.

Voting for the election began at 08:00 am in the morning today and appears to be going smoothly so far.

The Elections Commission has said that voting would continue till 04:00 pm in the evening and if there are no more voters in the voting queue by 04:00 pm, then voting would be closed.

It said that ballot counting is set to begin at 04:30 p.m.

A total of 282,395 people are eligible to vote in this election and the Elections Commission confirms that there are 27,000 new voters in this election.

The Commission has placed 574 ballot boxes across the country with 176 ballot boxes placed in the Greater Male' Area alone. The Commission has also sent 8 ballot boxes to several countries including India, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom.
