PNC Presidential Candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu promises to develop an airport in the lagoon of Alifu Alifu Mathiveri.
He made the promise while speaking at the campaign rally on Mathiveri earlier today.
Muizzu, who is also the Mayor of Male' City, said that Alifu Alifu Atoll is the atoll with the most tourism opportunities and that the Atoll's tourism sector should be expanded further.
Muizzu said that he would further develop the tourism sector in Mathiveri and the nearby regions with new resorts on the cards.
He further said that for these plans to bear fruit an airport is vital for the region and that he plans to build an airport in Mathiveri lagoon.
He added that this project would be fast-tracked if he is elected as the next President.
Muizzu also said that the island had land issues and that his administration would oversee a land reclamation project for the island.
Touching on next Saturday's voting, Muizzu said that many with money would approach voters in order to buy their votes but urged voters to maintain their objectiveness and freedom in voting.
He said that the country must proudly showcase its nationalism and that this was the moment for national unity.
Muizzu added that this could be the last opportunity to ensure the security and sovereignty of the country and if the voters fail to cast their decisions without the view of nationalism, the country might end losing its Islamic values and language.
