Scenes of unrest unfolded on the island of Alifu Alifu Mathiveri as PNC Presidential Candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited the island today.
Many from the island came out in support of Muizzu who arrived on the island earlier today. But unrest followed shortly after as a supporter from the ruling MDP instigated the disturbance in the crowd.
Police on the scene controlled the agitated crowd while many youths in the area called the PNC Candidate a 'thief'.
A resident from the island said to "The Press" that the majority of the island supported MDP.
While Presidential candidates can campaign till 6:00 p.m. of next Friday, the PNC Candidate has made campaign trips to several Atoll this week.
This includes Alifu, Raa, Baa, Lhaviyani, Laamu and Alifu Dhaalu. He is scheduled to travel to more islands in the vast Alifu Dhaalu Atoll later today.
