PNC Presidential Candidate Dr. Mohamed Mizzu says resort workers have expressed their concern over his pledge to change the school holidays back to the end of the year.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo last night, Miuzzu, who is also the Mayor of Male' City, said that the change to the start and end of the academic year has now become a problem for the people and that he would resolve the issue.

He explained that the school holidays falling in the middle of the year meant that it coincides with the overlapping of the two monsoons in the Maldives and that means the changes to the weather do not allow students and their families to enjoy the holidays as much.

Therefore, if he comes to power, he will change the academic year to start in January 2025 and December that year will be the time for families to enjoy the big holidays, he said. The curriculum will be designed to bring about this change, he said.

Muizzu further pointed out that the country's independence day falls inside the holidays (26th July) and that this means students taking part in the festivities are unable to enjoy the holidays as they have to attend practices during the school break.

He said that if he were elected, the academic year for 2025 would begin in January of the year and that students and their families can enjoy the holiday break in December. He added that there would be changes made to the curriculum in order to make this happen.

In a development today, the PNC Candidate said that he was receiving concerns from many resort workers over his pledge and that he would address their concerns. Muizzu further said that he would be giving details of this solution at the campaign rally to be held on Faafu Nilandhoo later tonight.

Muizzu said last night that the change would cause difficulties for resort employees. He said the change in December makes it difficult for parents working in resorts to take leave during the peak tourist season. He said he would also arrange for such employees to take leave during that period.
