Statistics from the Family Court show that MVR 41.1 million was due at the court as child support in the last six months but that it only received almost half the amount.

The statistics for the last six months showed that 185 children should receive child support and that 180 women should receive 'Iddhah' (waiting) payment.

Iddha payment is Maintenance paid by the husband to the wife during the ‘iddah (waiting) period of three menstrual cycles (approximately three months), or, if there is a pregnancy, until the woman delivers

The Court said that in the last 6 months, it should have received MVR 41.1 million but that it only received MVR 20.5 million.

It further said that the Court has issued MVR 21.2 million as child support in the last 6 months. The statistics also showed that the Court should have received MVR 5.3 million as an 'Iddhah' payment but only received MVR 1.5 million.

It said that MVR 1.1 million out of this has now been issued to recipients.

Family Court data showed that the Court should have received MVR 152,000 as payment for wives but only received 34,000 and that MVR 31,000 has been issued.
