Police have arrested the motorcycle rider who hit a pedestrian and fled the scene last Tuesday.

They said that the man was arrested today under a court-issued arrest warrant. The man hit MNU lecturer Ali Hafiz in the early hours of Tuesday morning while he was using the crosswalk to get to the other side of the road.

Police said via Twitter that while the suspect was arrested today, the delay in his arrest was because the suspect too had suffered serious injuries in the accident and was under treatment.

Initially, it was reported that the cycle rider escaped unscathed while Hafiz sustained serious injuries to his head and legs as he was thrown a fair distance after he was hit by the motorist. The motorist is believed to have been traveling at a high speed and fled the scene after the accident.

Police said that the suspect arrested in connection to the case is a 22-year-old man and that the suspect did not have a valid driver's license at the time of the accident.

His arrest came after a massive outcry calling for the suspect's arrest after he had caused harm to another due to reckless driving and then fled the scene instead of helping.

The victim of the accident Hafiz,50, is a lecturer at the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies.

Such accidents are common in the city area nowadays. People are seriously injured in such accidents, and some people have died from their injuries.
