Maldives Reform Movement MRM voices concern after the government moved to dismiss Deputy Minister at the Higher Education Ministry Ismail Zabeeh who was on an MRM slot in the coalition government.
The President's Office gave the former deputy minister the notice of dismissal on the 22nd of this year.
In a statement about the government's decision, MRM said that Zabeeh was an educated and highly capable individual and assured the public that he had not been involved in anything that warrants his dismissal from the post.
MRM noted that Zabeeh fulfilled his responsibilities diligently with honor and integrity. It said that MRM believed in choosing educated and capable individuals for just posts and that it would not accept the dismissal of the Deputy Minister.
The party highlighted what Zabeeh had achieved during the last four years as the Deputy Minister of the Higher Education Ministry. It stated that the former Deputy Minister played a key role in allowing individuals who had yet to make student loan payments to do so on an installment basis.
It also said that Zabeeh was vital in lowering the Student loan interest rate from 3 percent to 1 percent.
The party went on to say that the government had not consulted with MRM before axing the Deputy Minister and that this goes against the coalition agreement. It further said that offering government posts for political benefit would lead the country to a dangerous path.
