Police say no arrests have been made in the case of the alleged rape of a female tourist on a resort in the Maldives.

Police said to the Press, that the alleged rape from reported on the 6th of this month and that the incident had happened at a resort located in Kaafu Atoll.

Social media reports have identified the resort as the Ritz Carlton Maldives, Fari Island resort north of Male' in Kaafu Atoll.

Police said that they have launched an investigation into the allegations and that they have now taken the necessary samples required for the investigation.

The police further said that no arrests have yet been made in relation to the case.

Police did not reveal any other information on the case. But social media reports say that the rape victim is a Chinese student from Australia and that the perpetrator of the crime is a local resort staff who works there as a butler.

The reports also said that the victim sought treatment at the Health Center in Thulusdhoo island of Kaafu Atoll.
